What We Believe

At the Little Light House Oklahoma City, we believe our students are valuable. We are committed to serving their whole family by offering free, unparalleled services that will help every child reach their unlimited potential.

First founded in Tulsa, Oklahoma, the Little Light House is a tuition-free Developmental Center that for over three decades has been making a difference in the lives of hundreds of children with special needs.

Steeped in a tradition of academic and therapeutic excellence, we believe our students can achieve great things. We provide them with tools that help them to communicate, walk, and learn. We celebrate each victory and every milestone they reach while at Little Light House.

We believe our students were created by God and are loved by him. In all we do, we aim to glorify God by providing quality, expert solutions to help our students receive the help they deserve.

Our Story

A Note From Our Founder

At our sweet Jack’s anatomy scan, we learned that our baby boy had a 70% chance of having Down syndrome.

In all sincerity, we didn’t quite understand what this meant. I was 24 at the time and the ‘odds’ of having a child with Down syndrome at that age is less than 1%. Carter, my husband, and I were afraid of the unknown and of all of the concerns the doctor was sharing with us, but we were even more afraid of losing him or never having the chance to meet him. We prayed hard for this miracle baby with or without Down syndrome, and our Lord delivered.   Almost 2 months after Jack was born, we received his genetic testing confirming Trisomy 21 (Down syndrome). Carter looked at me and we smiled through the tears because in a way we already knew. We know how exceptional he is, how ahead of each milestone he continues to be and how resilient our little boy is.

A few weeks later, we toured Little Light House, a Christian private school in Tulsa, that specializes in serving children with special needs.

We fell in love, and although we were more than willing to drive 1.5 hours for our son to attend the school, we realized we could do more. And so we did.  In honor of my precious Jack, we have chosen to found an affiliate Little Light House campus to serve these extraordinary children in Oklahoma City. To be more specific, a tuition-free, Christian developmental center for children similar or not to my beautiful Jack from ages 0 to 6. Along with the school, Jack’s Friends Foundation will focus on providing resources, scholarships and aid beyond the schoolhouse to children with Down syndrome.

Every time I look at Jack, I can’t help but be thankful. Thankful that God chose me to be his mom and thankful that I was that 1%. In more ways than I could ever explain, he has changed our lives for the better.

Our Children

The Little Light House serves children ages birth through six with special needs. Our students come from a variety of religious and ethnic backgrounds, and have been diagnosed with developmental delays resulting from physically and mentally challenging conditions. Disabilities include Cerebral Palsy, Down Syndrome, Hydrocephaly, Autism, and a range of other disorders.
